September 3, 2024: Firewalk Studios has announced that Concord will be taken offline from Friday, September 6, 2024 as the studio looks to “explore options” to “better reach” its players.
Who are the Concord characters? Concord is looking to shake up the hero shooter sub-genre in a big way, bringing with it a 16-strong roster of unique characters that we all get to know much better through its weekly storytelling. Having piled hours into the game, we’ve got the full lowdown on what each Freegunner does, as well as which ones are worth playing.
The Concord characters are split into six different classes: Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden. Each class offers a unique crew bonus, such as a faster dodge cooldown or improved mobility. As such, you’ll need to think about the balance of your team composition when you lock in your desired Freegunner – you’ll end up taking a fat L in the FPS game if you don’t. If you already know how each roster member plays and just want our top picks for the best Concord characters then jump down to the bottom of this guide. Otherwise, let’s get you up to speed.
Concord characters
The Concord characters are:
1-Off
While we’ve seen our fair share of joyfully murderous robot characters over the years, we’ll let off 1-Off thanks to his quirky trash-tossing kit. After soaking up enough projectiles using your Industrial Vacuum, you’ll be able to use the accrued charges to send back devastating Trash Bombs, or better protect your team with a juiced-up Air Barrier.
- Combat trait: Trash Dispenser – More Trash Bombs with higher damage.
- Crew bonus: Anchor – Increased healing received.
- Primary weapon: CC-1090 Industrial Vacuum
- Secondary weapon: Pressure Blaster
- Ability one: Air Barrier – Place a projectile-deflecting cylinder of air. Gain charges by filling your Industrial Vacuum.
- Ability two: Trash Bomb – Bouncing, exploding projectile of compressed trash. Gain charges by filling your Industrial Vacuum.
- Movement style: Single jump.
- Passive abilities:
Bazz
Bazz is a highly mobile flanker that can quickly get in, take out a carry or support, and dip. The big vulnerability debuff granted by landing her Scourge Star is crucial to your success while piloting her, so be sure to lead with it when you find your target. From there, throw knives to chip away at their health, before finishing the kill with a Lunging Strike.
- Combat trait: Skillful Tracker – While crouching, track nearby enemies through walls.
- Crew bonus: Haunt – Improved mobility.
- Primary weapon: Carbon Steel throwing knives
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Lunging Strike – Lunge towards enemies with a deadly melee strike.
- Ability two: Scourge Star – Thrown item that applies the Vulnerable debuff to an enemy, increasing damage dealt to them.
- Movement style: Double jump, triple dodge, boosted slide jump.
- Passive ability: Beacon Blades – Hitting an enemy with throwing knife will track them for a short duration.
DaVeers
If you’re after a they/them for some mayhem, look no further than DaVeers. The Concord character’s kit is built around the huge amount of ignitable Burnite they can splash around the area – be it from their MK 5 Burnite Grenade Launcher or their Burnite Canisters. Considering how many crowded corridors there are on many of the Concord maps, DaVeers is always a handy pick if you’re in the business of zone control.
- Combat trait: Resistant Dodge – Dodging grants damage resistance for a brief period.
- Crew bonus: Breacher – Faster dodge cooldown.
- Primary weapon: MK 5 Burnite Grenade Launcher
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Ignition Dart – Fire damage dart that ignores Burnite pools on contact.
- Ability two: Burnite Canister – Splashes self-igniting Burnite pools across an area.
- Movement style: Double jump
- Passive ability: Volatile Chemicals – Burnite pools can be ignited by fire damage from allies.
Daw
If you’re a Gibby main in Apex Legends then Daw’s the man for you. Though he doesn’t quite have the same explosivity as the Polynesian powerhouse, if bunkering down a location and playing out from cover is your preferred playstyle then Daw’s got you, well, covered. Aside from his protective Safety Dome, Daw’s Healing Pad makes him a mobile hospital – a must-have when holding specific points (especially those out in the open).
- Combat trait: Intensive Care – Healing Pads have a larger pool of available health before deactivating.
- Crew bonus: Tactician – Faster reload speed.
- Primary weapon: .320 Sanctuary Burst Rifle
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Healing Pad – Drops a healing device that heals nearby allies’ health.
- Ability two: Safety Dome – Creates a durable protective dome that blocks projectiles.
- Movement style: Double jump
- Passive ability: Second Wind – Heals a small amount during dodge.
Duchess
Duchess is a fascinating Freegunner and possesses one of the most unique kits we’ve seen. Because of her BA02 Submachine Gun Duchess needs to stay in close-quarters combat – the good news being that every quarter can be a close one thanks to her ability to construct walls. After putting enemies in a cage, fire off the Concord character’s Ruinous Blast to make them vulnerable, before getting in there and lasering them down.
- Combat trait: Dodge Reload – Reloads weapon during dodge.
- Crew bonus: Ranger – Improved weapon recoil.
- Primary weapon: BA02 Submachine Gun
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Construct Wall – Creates a wall that blocks sight and enemy movement.
- Ability two: Ruinous Blast – Projects an area that implodes after a delay. Enemies in the blast take damage and become vulnerable.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive ability: Austorium Resistance – No self-damage from personal blasts.
Emari
Concord’s walking juggernaut, Emari is the perfect defensive beacon to rally around – especially in free-flowing modes like Brawl. On top of being ridiculously tanky thanks to her passive and Projectile Shield, Emari can also generate armor for her team. Combined with a good healer it’s almost impossible to take her down without a well-coordinated strike. Oh, and don’t stand in the way of her Rotary Scrap Cannon for too long as you will get minced.
- Combat trait: Synergy Shield – Destroying Projectile Shield while active grants Armor.
- Crew bonus: Anchor – Increased healing received.
- Primary weapon: Rotary Scrap Cannon
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Armor Generator – Generates an area that grants allies Armor. Stacks over time.
- Ability two: Projectile Shield – Destructible barrier that blocks incoming projectiles.
- Movement style: Single jump.
- Passive ability: Tough as Nails – Incoming body damage is reduced.
Haymar
If you’re after that classic Destiny Warlock movement, then opt for Haymar. This fiery Concord character can be a nightmare to handle 1v1 thanks to her high-damage Flameshot Bow that can be overcharged by aiming down sights. If that’s not already too hot to handle for your enemy, then throwing out a (not so) friendly flash to blind them ensures they won’t even see their demise coming – nasty.
- Combat trait: Hellfire – Extra Wall of Fire charges and reduced cooldown for Blinding Flash.
- Crew bonus: Warden – Longer weapon range.
- Primary weapon: Flameshow Bow
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Blinding Flash – Projectile that blinds enemies near its explosion. Can be detonated manually with secondary activation.
- Ability two: Wall of Fire – Projectile that creates a wall of fire in the direction it was thrown.
- Movement style: Hover, air dodge.
- Passive ability: Flameshot Charge – Aiming down sights for a short duration will overcharge the primed projectile.
IT-Z
IT-Z is very much one for the Overwatch 2 Sombra mains out there. Her Cosmic Slip ability operates in the same way as Sombra’s Translocator, granting her the means to teleport to an orb she throws out. Stack IT-Z’s incredible mobility on top of this and you’ve got a deadly assassin that can 100-0 you in an instant and get out of Dodge just as fast. Pro tip: throw the sphere on a health pack where possible, allowing you to instantly restore HP should you have to zip out of a bad trade.
- Combat trait: Evasive Maneuvers – Mobility increases when at low health.
- Crew bonus: Haunt – Improved mobility.
- Primary weapon: EL/120 Electrostatic SMG
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Cosmic Slip – Tosses a sphere of energy. On secondary activation, It-Z will move instantly to the orb’s location.
- Ability two: Scramble Rebound – Throws chaos energy that will disrupt the enemy’s weapon. On contact, it returns to It-Z and supercharges her weapon.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive ability: Mirror Image – Dodging or using Cosmic Slip leaves behind a decoy.
Jabali
Jabali’s Pulse-Guided Seeker Rifle is one of our favorite weapons in the game, largely due to its projectile similarity to Halo’s Needler (sans big kaboom when you hit the target enough times). A mobile medic that can lay down covering fire, Jabali utilizes healing and damaging orbs to keep his teammates topped up while handling his 1v1s.
- Combat trait: Pulse Radius – The healing aura from Life Pulse has an increased radius.
- Crew bonus: Ranger – Improved weapon recoil.
- Primary weapon: Pulse-Guided Seeker Rifle
Secondary weapon: None - Ability one: Life Pulse – Thrown orb that creates a healing aura around an ally when absorbed.
- Ability two: Hunter Orb – Offensive orb that seeks out and damages enemies.
- Movement style: Triple jump.
- Passive ability: Life Cycle – Eliminations or Hunter Orb hits recharge Life Pulse.
Kyps
We love Kyps’s secret agent aesthetic, and it’s befitting of her stealth-based kit. Between her Surveillance Trap and Lookout passive, Kyps’s intel generation is unmatched. She’s also a powerful foil to Concord characters that rely more on their abilities to have an impact, as well as shields thanks to her Disruption Grenade that impedes both. Though her Silenced Burst Pistol is one of the weakest weapons in the game, her utility more than makes up for it.
- Combat trait: Marked Target – Damaging an enemy from stealth reveals them to your team and resets your dodge. This trait has a cooldown period.
- Crew bonus: Tactician – Faster reload speed.
- Primary weapon: Silenced Burst Pistol
Secondary weapon: None - Ability one: Surveillance Trap – Trap that reveals enemies when triggered. Persists between rounds. Can be harvested for ability charges after activation.
- Ability two: Disruption Grenade – Disrupts enemy abilities and damages shields. Throwing this will reset your dodge cooldown.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive abilities:
Lark
We’d argue that Lark possesses the most distinctive kit out of all of the Concord characters due to their spore-based combat. Though you can’t get as creative with their Transplant Pod as you can with IT-Z’s teleport, it doesn’t have a time limit. This is great because Lark gains plenty of damage resistance from their Spore Seed and Fungal Resistance passive, ensuring they can stay in the fight for longer.
- Combat trait: Natural Dexterity – Faster reload while in a spore area.
- Crew bonus: Tactician – Faster reload speed.
- Primary weapon: Razorpod Launcher
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Transplant Pod – Drops a pod that Lark can return to on second activation.
- Ability two: Spore Seed – Drops a growing spore on the ground. Standing in the spore’s area grants haste and damage resistance to allies. Enemies are slowed and vulnerable.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive ability: Fungal Resistance – Damage resistance stacks with active spores on the map.
Lennox
Lennox is the perfect selfish… self-sufficient carry. Between his L-4 “Bell Ringer” Heavy Handgun and Chesterly Model 3 Revolver, he has more than enough firepower to take down even the tankiest opponent. If you can land his Exploding Knives, Lennox also packs a surprising amount of burst damage. On top of all of this, he even has a self-heal, so you can take a trade, top up, and get back into the fray.
- Combat traits:
- Dodge Reload (Variant I) – Reloads equipped weapon during dodge.
- Extended Mag (Variant II) – Extra ammo for both weapons.
- Crew bonus: Warden – Longer weapon range.
- Primary weapon: HL-4 “Bell Ringer” Heavy Handgun
Secondary weapon: Chesterly Model 3 Revolver - Ability one: Exploding Knife – Throwing knife that explodes on impact.
- Ability two: Claxton Healing – Regenerates health over a brief duration.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive ability: Gunslinger – Emptying a weapon and quickly swapping to a new weapon will reload the stowed weapon.
Roka
Packing some seriously explosive verticality, Roka is the ultimate demolition expert. Whether you’re bombarding enemies with her SAL-90 Light Missile Launcher or getting up close and personal with her Blast Dive ability, Roka can make short work of pretty much anything that she locks onto.
- Combat trait: Hover Targeting – Target lock is faster while Hover Thrusters are active.
- Crew bonus: Haunt – Improved mobility.
- Primary weapon: SAL-90 Light Missile Launcher
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Hover Thrusters – Activate in air to hover in place. Cancel with secondary activation.
- Ability two: Blast Dive – Blast to the ground and deal damage in an area on impact.
- Movement style: Triple jump, air dodge.
- Passive abilities:
Star Child
Whether he’s some sort of chimeral homage to the Guardians of the Galaxy or not, what’s clear is Star Child has more than enough oomph to clear any obstacle that stands in his way. He’s certainly one of the riskier Concord characters to play as you’ll have to effectively manage his Diamond Skin passive uptime, and time when to Rage Rush in to perfection. If you don’t then you’ll be seeing plenty of the respawn screen.
- Combat trait: Diamond Dodge – Gain short burst of Diamond Skin while dodging.
- Crew bonus: Breacher – Faster dodge cooldown.
- Primary weapon: Skullbreaker Shotgun
- Secondary weapon: None
- Ability one: Rage Rush – Charfge forward with the protection of Diamond Skin.
- Ability two: Power Slam – Slam the ground for an area damage melee attack.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive abilities:
Teo
Teo is every MW3 player’s dream. Your prototypical soldier, Teo’s loadout comes locked and loaded with everything you need to be a fearsome frontline fighter. Teo excels in confined firefights due to how his Tactical Weapon Sights interact with his Smoke Grenade, as well as the explosive power of his Cluster Grenade.
- Combat trait: Rapid Reposition – Increased mobility for brief duration after dodge.
- Crew bonus: Ranger – Improved weapon recoil.
- Primary weapon: ZEG-12 Guild Gard Rifle
- Secondary weapon: CL ROC 99 Guild Guard Sidearm
- Ability one: Smoke Grenade – Detonates in a cloud of smoke that blocks sight.
- Ability two: Cluster Grenade – Frag grenade that scatters secondary explosives in a tight area.
- Movement style: Double jump, double dodge.
- Passive ability: Tactical Weapon Sights – Can see enemies through smoke while aiming down sights.
Vale
If sitting back and scoping out targets from afar is your bag then let us introduce you to the final character on our list, Vale. Concord’s resident sharpshooter is proficient at doling out the damage, before repositioning with a big, bionically enhanced leap. To help her set up shop, Vale also has a trip mine that she can throw down to prevent flanks, though her Monarch Sidearm can help her navigate a pinch should she be pushed.
- Combat trait: Enduring Aim – Aiming down sights with the Sniper Rifle grants Damage Resist.
- Crew bonus: Warden – Longer weapon range.
- Primary weapon: Monarch “Long 52” Sniper Rifle
- Secondary weapon: Monarch Sidearm
- Ability one: Leap – Bionically enhanced vertical leap.
- Ability two: Trip Mine – Thrown mine that attaches to surfaces and detonates when triggered by an enemy.
- Movement style: Double jump.
- Passive abilities:
- Peak Performance – Faster rifle handling on critical hit.
- Critical Eye – Track low health enemies through walls.
Best Concord characters
The best Concord characters are:
- Daw
- Emari
- Haymar
- IT-Z
- Lennox
- Teo
While Concord is still in its early days, and the intricacies of its more complex Freegunners haven’t been fully realized, we’re prioritizing characters who can either deal a ton of damage or those who are best placed to mitigate it. On the offensive front, Haymar’s raw damage, Lennox’s versatility, IT-Z’s playmaking ability, and Teo’s prowess in the multiplayer game’s many chokes make them stand out against the other DPS-based Concord characters.
On the flip side, Emari is by far the most straightforward tank to play in the game, and lacks any real weaknesses aside from her slow movement speed. Daw, meanwhile, offers up the perfect blend of team defense and healing, making him a must-have in a variety of comps.
And that’s all you need to know about the Concord characters and which are the best to play. Be sure to check back when Firewalk drops new characters, as we’ll be sure to keep this list updated. Additionally, we’ll be revising our top pick list as the meta evolves so you’ll always know who’s dominating.
If you need another hero shooter to pass the time with, then be sure to jump into Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 – we also have an Overwatch 2 characters guide to help you learn the ropes. If you’re a returning player, however, our Overwatch 2 tier list will serve you well.
