The first Gothic game released all the way back in 2001, and was a big step forward for action RPG’s at the time. Now, more than 20 years later we’re getting a full remake of that original seminal title with Gothic Remake, which will be the debut game for new studio Alkimia Interactive. We heard about the remake for the first time all the way back in 2020, and now four years later Alkimia is finally ready to show off some gameplay and it did just that during the THQ Nordic 2024 Showcase. The trailer shows off a good chunk of gameplay while narration takes players through some of the basics of the game’s story, setting the scene for anyone who perhaps didn’t play the original game back in 2001.You can check out the trailer for yourself, below.Built with Unreal Engine 5, the dev team worked hard to make the Valley of the Mines a setting that truly felt alive, with a slew of diverse NPC routines and possible reactions to make your own experience with the remake feel totally unique to you.A bump-up in visuals though isn’t the only change made with the remake. New methods of traversal like swimming and free climbing have been introduced and a more modern combat system that still keeps to the slow and tactical style Gothic was known for.The team has also minimized the UI’s footprint on screen as much as possible, to really help players feel immersed at all times.Unfortunately we still don’t have a release date for the remake, but it will be playable at this year’s Gamescom, so hopefully that’s an indication that we’ll be able to play it very soon.Source – [THQ Nordic Showcase]
