It’s been a week since Xbox Game Pass added its first Call of Duty game, and it seems that Game Pass subscribers have been busy gunning down those Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 achievements. However, with its inclusion into the subscription service, players have been reporting an increase in Call of Duty cheaters across Xbox first-person shooters Warzone and Modern Warfare 3, and now, Activision has given an explanation as to why that might be. Spike in Call of Duty cheaters down to Ricochet anti-cheat issueAccording to Activision, there was an issue with Call of Duty’s Ricochet Anti-Cheat detection system, which resulted in a “spike in cheater reports.” Now, this has apparently been fixed, and cheaters in the first-person shooter should be less prevalent. A lot of the discussion surrounding cheaters in Call of Duty has been about the Windows Store version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was recently added to PC Game Pass. When playing through this Windows version, they will appear as an Xbox player, despite actually playing on PC. With cheating being far less of an issue on console, Charlie Intel speculates that naughty PC players could be using this method to mask their platform, making them harder to identify. However, in Activision’s latest statement, the team says, “Richochet is able to detect the specific platform for all users, despite how they may appear in-game.” Taking things one step further, Activision has now “deployed an update to differentiate the in-game UI icons displayed for Xbox and PC players who are using Game Pass.”Later this year, we’ll see a new Call of Duty game hit Game Pass. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will launch into Xbox Game Pass in October.
