After numerous rumours and speculation, EA announced at EA Play Live 2021 a remake of the classic sci-fi survival horror game Dead Space, coming to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.Developed by EA Motive, using EA’s Frostbite engine, the Dead Space remake was revealed in a new teaser trailer, which offers an in-engine look at the game. Dead Space has been completely rebuilt from the ground up for next-gen consoles and PC. EA says you can expect an improved story, characters, gameplay mechanics, and more as you fight your way once more through the nightmarish and abandoned USG Ishimura as engineer Isaac Clarke. Unfortunately, no official release date or window was given. Speaking to IGN, EA Motive creative director Roman Campos-Oriola explained that the new game is far from just a simple remaster. “In terms of visuals, sound, gameplay, everything, we are rebuilding all of these assets. We are not porting them, it’s not uprezzing the texture or adding more polygons to the model. It’s really rebuilding all these elements, shooting all the animations, et cetera.” Senior producer Philippe Ducharme also revealed that there are no plans to add microtransactions to the remake, noting that the team had learnt from past mistakes. “We’re looking at what can be taken and reinjected into the first game from a future standpoint,” Ducharme said. “We’re also learning from mistakes such as microtransactions, which we will not have, for instance, in our game.” Although Ducharme doesn’t reference it directly, he is likely referring to Dead Space 3, which was stuffed full of microtransactions.
