It looks like stunning slugcat survival simulator Rain World might finally be coming to Xbox after a five-year wait, with the Guerrilla Collective showcase site listing upcoming expansion Downpour for an Xbox release.Downpour was announced earlier this year as an expansive new DLC update for the cult game, and we just spotted a recent Guerrilla Collective site update ahead of its big showcase in a few weeks seemingly suggesting a belated all-in-one release of base game and expansion for Xbox. An Xbox version was originally on the cards years ago before complications arose between developer Videocult and Rain World’s original publisher, followed by a lengthy process as the dev tried to wrestle the rights back. With that finally resolved, new publisher Akupara will be helping bring Downpour to existing Rain World platforms with parity between all versions, as well as apparently welcoming Xbox to the slugcat family.Rain World: Downpour trailerRain World is a survival platformer where you explore “a dynamic, ever-changing ecosystem of predators and prey” while peril lurks around every corner and everything wants to sink its teeth into your squishy slugcat hide. A blend of hand-crafted and procedural animation techniques gives the creatures of Rain World a real sense of fluidity and natural life (and makes some intensely creepy), and it’s always fascinating to see how they interact with the world as well as with each another. Downpour will take this aspect of the game to the next level, adding a host of new playable slugcat variants with their own abilities, new critters to creep you out and hunt you down, and a Safari sandbox mode that lets you toy with (and play as!) other creatures in areas you’ve cleared to see how they behave around one another. Excited for Rain World to finally be on its way to Xbox? Played it elsewhere and already in love? Just want a slugcat to call your own? Let us know!
