Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Oh, I just noticed it’s a holiday in the United States. Awkward. In my defense, I’m a Canadian living in Japan. And also, I never take holidays off anyway. So here are some updates for you to check out as you potentially enjoy a nice, lazy sleep-in. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Dan The Man, Free
We’ll start things off by having a look at what’s going on in Dan the Man‘s latest version. First of all is the new Star Challenge. Collect stars in the Story Mode and you’ll get some new icons along with a sense of self-satisfaction. That last one isn’t guaranteed. There’s a new event where you have to fight cyber-viruses that are trying to hack the Gibson or something. Hmm, new arena, new missions, a new suit related to the virus theme, and some new rewards. Yeah, that’s decent.
Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Free
Did I make a Love Shack reference with regards to this game before? I must have. I surely must have. Bang Bang on the door, baby. Mick Foley used to do that when he was wrestling as Cactus Jack. Not sure why, but it worked. As for this update, there’s a new hero in the form of Scarlet Raven – Julian, who seems to be a jack of many trades but a master of none. A new event will be firing off soon that sees the Transformers crossing over, which is slightly odd. There’s also a new gameplay feature called Magic Frenzy in Magic Chess. Tiiiiiiiiiin roof, rusted.
Sonic Dash+,
Sonic! He can really move. He’s got an attitude. That kind of thing. Sing the song yourself if you want the rest of it. There are a couple of movies that I’m sure anyone reading this will know about, and may very well have watched. This latest update for the Apple Arcade version of the game brings back the movie events, giving you another chance to unlock the movie versions of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Longclaw. Leaderboard rewards have been upped across the board, and the spring jump dance move rewards have also been boosted. Blue streak, speeds by, Sonic the Hedgehog. Too fast, for the naked guy, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Terraria, $4.99
You know how it goes. A big version arrives after a long while without any updates, and inevitably some bugs creep in. Really hard to help it. So the next couple of updates are dedicated to patching up those bugs and straightening things out. Beyond those fixes, this update also adds an input lock to make keyboard and mouse play better for those who like to do their Terraria adventuring that way. The interface editor has also seen some improvements. Not the flashiest of updates, but an important one.
SongPop Party,
SongPop Party got a massive update this time around, particularly to the music catalog. It now has more than four hundred new worldwide playlists to dig into. A Randomizer feature has been added for when you can’t decide which playlist to pick, and you can now bookmark your favorites to save them for later. There’s also a new search feature you can use to find specific playlists and artists. Lots of great improvements there, so I suppose I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. It’s a pretty fun game after all.
Cut the Rope Remastered,
Always a little strange but also quite nice to see a classic game from the olden days of the App Store get new content. If you want to keep on cutting the rope like you did back when times were simpler, there are now twenty-seven new levels to do that in. But because it is 2022 and not 2010, the levels are superhero-themed. One cannot fully escape the march of time, in the end.
Merge Mansion, Free
This game has one of the more successful advertising campaigns around, doesn’t it? A perfectly ordinary puzzle game that packs in a bunch of weird story elements and presents them in slick trailers that surprise the people watching. Okay, well. The Hopeberry Festival is an old tradition that has fallen by the wayside and Maddie needs to bring it back to Hopewell Bay, complete with new decorations. There’s also a new Album feature, and redesigns of some of the previous story events.
Asphalt 9: Legends, Free
I’m looking at the size of this update and thinking perhaps I was too hasty in giving away the UMMSotW this time, but what’s done is done. The new Lamborghini Raging Bull season is here, adding six new Lambos to the game: the Countach LPI 800-4, the Diablo GT, the Sesto Elemento, and more. There are going to be some events dedicated to electric vehicles, a clash between two clubs with big rewards on offer, and a whole bunch more special events rolling out soon. You’ll probably need the Legend Pass to get your hands on all or even some of it, but that’s how things go these days.
Gardenscapes, Free
In my haste, I almost forgot the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update of the week. Okay, Merge Mansion could technically count. But we need to keep an eye on Austin, lest he become too powerful and destroy the fabric of reality itself. So let’s see what new things are going on in Gardenscapes. A Dance Season event where you need to help Austin prepare for the City Ball. A Makeover event kicking off in a couple of weeks. And some kind of Kite Festival at the end of June? In the main story, Chloe is trying to become a stage manager and put on a play, and you need to help her. You’ll also be able to unlock a new area and turn it into a reality show set! How horrible!
Brawlhalla, Free
Mmm yeah, this is another good one. Alas, the SongPop Party folks are already halfway to Vegas to celebrate the prize. Brawlhalla is crossing over with Street Fighter a second time, which I guess makes this the Street Fighter II event? Dhalsim, Ken, Sakura, M. Bison, and some random guy named Luke are here, joining Ryu, Chun-Li, and Akuma from the last event. Five new Epic Crossovers! A new Street Brawl map! And more! Seriously, Luke? Luke before Blanka? Luke before Dan? Alright, I get it. But that’s the kind of thing that costs you coveted awards, my friends.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
