Gotham Knight’s creative director Patrick Redding recently discussed some of the design aspects of Nightwing and Red Hood’s combat abilities and the heroes’ “unifying theme.”The recent Gotham Knights Discord Q+A session with the game’s creative director (thanks, Eurogamer), Patrick Redding, covered both Nightwing and Red Hood, two of the four playable heroes. You can see them in action in the recent 13-minute gameplay video, which also confirmed that the Xbox One and PS4 consoles won’t be supported.Gotham Knights combat abilitiesNightwing’s combat abilities are apparently designed to feel like he had a peek at some of the Dark Knight’s belongings and pilfered them for himself. The Flying Trapeze move for instance took inspiration from the “aerialist moves with jet-powered gliders,” found in the hero’s solo book. Jet-powered gliders definitely sound like something Wayne Enterprises would have developed, so we’re on board. The trapeze itself is supposed to “feel a bit improvised, and dependent on his extreme athleticism,” Redding said. “Flying it has such a different feel from Batgirl’s cape-gliding.” While Nightwing is pulling off stunts and hanging off small stealth drones, Red Hood is “confronting the trauma of dying and being brought back.” He’s on a personal journey from anti-hero to hero, and “discovers [that] he can channel these mystic talents in ways he finds familiar.” Mystic Leap is just one way the character implements his talents, which are channelled “through his physicality [and] in how he moves, but also in how he fights and even how he uses his weapons.”Gotham Knights launches on October 25th for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC via the Steam and Epic Games Store.
