Twitter reacts to Miesha Tate’s win against Marion Reneau at UFC Vegas 31 on Saturday night.

After a five-year layoff, former UFC bantamweight champion and longtime women’s MMA pioneer, Miesha Tate, finished Marion Reneau at UFC Vegas 31.

Tate entered the bout with a lot of unanswered questions. Years of self-reflection finally led to her making her return to the Octagon. The first two rounds were quite competitive, as both women traded blows on the feet before it finally got to the ground.

Near the end of the second round, Tate was briefly caught in a kimura attempt before being saved by the bell. Once round three began, Tate, who has significantly more MMA experience, was on a mission to close the deal.

After transitioning to the back mount, Tate utilized her ground and pound to win her first MMA fight in over six years. Jubilated with excitement, Tate took it all in.

Her goal is another run at a championship, a feat she hasn’t reached since March 2015 when she submitted Holly Holm in the fifth round at UFC 196. She would lose to current champion, Amanda Nunes, before retiring from MMA shortly after.

With the loss, Reneau walked away from the sport, having previously announced her retirement prior to the fight. Tate will now look ahead to bigger and better opportunities after finally snapping a two-fight losing skid.

Tate was the UFC’s third-ever bantamweight champion, joining the likes of Ronda Rousey and Holm on a short list of women’s greats.

Twitter was hyped when Miesha Tate got the finish

With any big fight, of course, Twitter was in a frenzy. This was no different when Tate got the win she had been looking for.

Here is how the MMA community reacted to the highly-anticipated moment that had social media buzzing on a busy night in sports.
