Dig A Dino is a game about smashing rocks with ever-more elaborate hammers. Contained within those rocks are the bones of long dead dinosaurs. You need to collect them, put them together and give them a clean in order to show off your collection. So yeah, there’s a lot going on.

Which is why we figured we should probably write a guide. Something that was packed full of the strategies you need to take your dino digging to the next level. Heck, they might even take it past the next level, who knows? All we know is you’re going to be getting dinosaurs quicker if you follow these handy suggestions.

It really doesn’t matter if you’re just smashing your first rock or you’ve already found the complete skeleton of a raptor – there’s definitely going to be something here to help you out. So let’s blumming do this – these are the very best hints, tips and cheats for Dig A Dino.

Keep smashing

It’s a good idea to smash all of the rock that you can. There’s often hidden items and extra gems scattered around the layers, and the more you smash the more you’re going to get. You need to hack out all of the rock to move down anyway, so just mash it all and grab everything.

Green is correct

When you’re placing the bones in the dinosaur lab and you’re not sure where they go, move them around the skeleton. When they’re close to where they need to be a green outline will appear. Slide the bones close to that and they’ll snap into place. Keep doing that until you’ve got yourself a dinosaur.

Hit the bombs

Hitting the bombs – you’ll sometimes see them peeking up from the rock – will make them explode. That might sound like a bad thing, but it’s actually a very good thing. An exploding bomb will clear out a huge patch of rock and let you work through a level much quicker. Smack ‘em good.

Gems carry over

The gems you pick up on one level are still going to be there when you get to the next, so you don’t have to worry about converting them into cash before you move on. In some games that isn’t the case, so we figured it was worthwhile pointing it out so you’re not cashing in when you don’t need to.

Use the boosts?

You’ll sometimes find boosts in the layers of rock that you’re smashing through. The first time you find them they’re free, after that you’re going to have to watch a video to use them. There’s not a whole heap of point in unlocking them, though. They don’t last very long and you can clear almost as much if you don’t have to down tools to watch the ad.
