Sometimes, you don’t have fat stacks of cash to splash on games. Such is the cruel truth of modern life. But that doesn’t mean you’re going to have to forego playing something awesome on your phone or tablet. Far from it, in fact.

As we hope to prove in this here list. It’s an in-no-particular-order countround of the best games that money can’t buy on the Play Store. Sure there are ads and IAPs, but there are also some awesome experiences waiting to be discovered.

You can click on the names of the games below to download them from the Play Store. None of them will cost you anything to try out. And if you’ve got your own favorite free game, make sure you let us know all about it in the comments section.

A gorgeous sand-boarding sequel that builds on some of the ideas of the original as well as throwing in some of its own. It’s mesmeric in all the right ways, and once you start playing it’s pretty damn hard to put down.

One of, if not the, best shooters available on the Play Store. It’s packed full of multiplayer firefights across a bunch of different, rotating modes. And you can enjoy it without spending a single cent.

A version of one of the most popular games in the world, designed from the ground-up for mobile play. It’s super slick, and offers a deep MOBA experience that’s easy to pick up but challenging – and super satisfying – to master.

A stunning, open-world gacha RPG that sees you exploring a fantasy universe. It’s packed full of action, it’s got a great story and sometimes you just want to look at it and drool. And you can team up with friends playing on different platforms.

Sure, it’s been kicking around for a good long while now, but it’s still hard to beat Clash Royale’s bite-sized mini-MOBA design. Collect cards, attack towers, slowly becoming addicted on an almost pathological level. This is snack gaming at its finest.

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention over the past couple of years, Among Us is a gaming phenomenon that took the world by storm. It’s an asynchronous multiplayer experience involving murder and accusation, set on a space ship. And it’s really good.

A super smart card-playing game that sees you using a deck to sneak and steal shiny loot. Any of the dev’s game could have made it onto the list, really, but this one is our favorite, and we’re writing it.

Build a civilization, battle it out against other civilizations, both AI and player controlled. This is a super deep experience that will suck you in if you’ve got a penchant for massive planning and empire building.

Again, we could have put most of Nitrome’s games on this list, because they’re free and amazing. This one sees you working your way through dungeons, fighting monsters and trying not to die. It’s easy to pick up, but it’s got a meaty challenge on those familiar bones.

A side-on version of the chaotic car-based soccer game. It captures everything that makes the home version so great, but distills it into chewy little morsels of fun. There’s depth here as well, and plenty of hilarity and fist-clenching frolics.
