The Milwaukee Bucks are down 0-2 to the Phoenix Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals, but there is always a chance they can come back from the deficit since these teams have done so.

The Milwaukee Bucks managed to make it to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1974, but now find themselves in tricky situation. After falling 118-105 to the Phoenix Suns in Game 1, the Bucks were hoping to even up the series on Thursday night for the second act of the best-of-seven series.

Even though the Bucks gave it their all in Game 2, they simply could not stop the Suns, as they lost 118-108, now down 0-2 in the series. While all seems lost for the Bucks, there is still hope for them, as there was a recent team to overcome that deficit to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Who is the last team to come back from a 0-2 deficit in the NBA Finals?

The last team to overcome an 0-2 deficit were the 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers. That’s right, the very team consisting of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love that was down 3-1 in the series to the powerhouse Golden State Warriors, only to fight back to win their first NBA title in franchise history.

Historically, teams that lead 2-0 in an NBA Finals are 31-4 in the series. But, there are three other teams besides the 2016 Cavaliers:

  • 2006: Miami Heat over Dallas Mavericks
  • 1977: Portland Trail Blazers over Philadelphia 76ers
  • 1969: Boston Celtics over Los Angeles Lakers

Maybe a homecoming is just what the Bucks need to begin their comeback quest, as they return to Milwaukee’ to play Game 3 in front of their fans in the Fiserv Forum on Sunday night. But if this series has shown us anything thus far, it is that the Suns are not going to make it easy on them.
