Epic Games recently announced it would donate proceeds from real-money purchases in Fortnite to humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine. Now, Epic says it’s raised a huge $100 million for charities operating in the country. It’s taken Epic Games just nine days to raise the $100 million dollars, which will all be going to Direct Relief, UNICEF, the UN World Food Programme, the UN Refugee Agency, and World Central Kitchen. Epic says these organisations are providing Ukrainian people caught up in the war with “emergency aid, including health support, food and clean water, essential supplies, legal aid, and shelter.” It also notes that it’s working quickly to get the funds across to these charities, saying, “We’re not waiting for the actual funds to come in from our platform and payment partners, which can take a while depending on how the transaction was processed. As transactions are reported, we’ll log them and send the funds to the humanitarian relief organisations within days.”Epic began its fundraising efforts through Fortnite on March 20th — the same day Fortnite’s Chapter 3, Season 2 began. After just one day, the company said it had raised $36 million. Epic will be donating all proceeds from real-money purchases in Fortnite up until April 3rd, so there is still plenty of time to raise even more money. Microsoft has also joined Epic and is contributing its net Fortnite processes from sales on the Microsoft Store for the same two-week period.
