According to the release, this includes ‘maximising’ CLG’s business performance, launching growth initiatives, driving marketing partnerships, enhancing fan engagement, and ‘providing leadership in the evolving esports community’.

Kim will work closely with Daniel Fleeter, MSG Sports’s Vice President of Business Operations, and CLG’s Founder, George ‘HotshotGG’ Georgallidis, to achieve the organisation’s goals.

Fleeter commented: “Greg has built an incredible reputation within the esports industry around his passion for growing the world of professional and amateur gaming.

“On behalf of the entire CLG staff, I am excited to work with him as we continue to cultivate CLG and drive the long-term success of our organisation.”

Prior to joining CLG and MSG Sports, Kim served as the Director of Esports for fellow North American organisation Evil Geniuses. Throughout his near two year tenure at Evil Geniuses, Kim was responsible for building the organisation’s LCS franchise.

Kim also spent over a year at Game publisher Riot Games as the company’s LCS Insights Lead from July 2018 to October 2019.

On his appointment, Kim added: ”As a New Yorker and a lifelong fan in both sports and gaming spaces, I couldn’t be more thrilled to join an esports organisation as storied as CLG and to be affiliated with Madison Square Garden Sports, my hometown franchise.

“I’m excited to lead CLG into the future, and I look forward both to advancing the business and collaborating with our passionate fanbase to build further upon the organisation’s legacy.”

Esports Insider says: It’ll be interesting to see how CLG’s direction changes following the appointment of Kim. Having somebody in charge of overseeing CLG’s business operations could result in a lot of changes to the organisation, particularly from a marketing standpoint. Given his work at Evil Geniuses, Kim certainly has the credentials to do well in the new role.
