New York-based The Strong National Museum of Play has announced the 12 finalists it’ll be considering for induction into the 2022 World Video Game Hall of Fame in May, with Assassin’s Creed 1, PaRappa the Rapper, Dance Dance Revolution, and Resident Evil 1 gracing the list. Dyson, director of The Strong’s International Center for the History of Electronic Games, said in a press release. “There are true icons like Ms. Pacman, games that changes the industry like Rogue, and smartphone games that made gamers out of hundreds of millions of people, such as Candy Crush Saga and Words with Friends.”The aforementioned games were selected from among thousands of nominations that the organization received. Fans are also being given a chance to vote for their favorite game from the list between March 17 and March 24 under the “Player’s Choice” ballot at worldvideogamehalloffame.org. “The three games that receive the most public votes will form one ballot and will join the other ballots submitted by members of the International Selection Advisory Committee,” the museum wrote. The committee is comprised of journalists and scholars. The final inductees will be announced on Thursday, May 5.In other news, Supermassive Games has said that The Quarry has been designed for gamers and non-gamers both, and Square Enix has said that it’s not giving up on Babylon’s Fall.
