Star Wars Eclipse won’t launch until 2027-28 — report

Star Wars Eclipse, an upcoming adventure game set in the High Republic era developed by Quantic Dream, is at least five years away from being released, according to a new report. Quantic Dream’s new Star Wars game was announced at last year’s The Game Awards without a release window, though rumours suggested we’d see the title sometime between 2024 and 2025. Now, a new report from Xfire’s Tom Henderson claims that because of staffing issues, we might not see the game until, at least, five years from now. According to Henderson, the reason why Star Wars Eclipse was announced so early was so that Quantic Dream could attract developers to actually work on the game. Henderson’s sources close to the developer say that while the trailer shown at The Game Awards was met with a favourable reception from the gaming community, “it has not had the desired effect of attracting developer talent to the studio,” and Star Wars Eclipse will now likely release “around 2027-2028.” Later, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb corroborated Xfire’s report, saying he too had heard that Star Wars Eclipse had been pushed back. The report also delves into Quantic Dream’s current job openings. There are currently 67 open positions at the developer’s Paris studio, with jobs available in nearly every aspect involved with game development, including some senior positions. In previous years, Quantic Dream has been accused of fostering a toxic work culture so you can sort of understand why the developer might be struggling to attract talent. As with any report like this, it’s worth taking it with a pinch of salt until otherwise confirmed. What do you make of the report? Are you excited for Star Wars Eclipse?
