Publisher CD Projekt has suspended all sales of its games in Russia and Belarus in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In a statement posted over on Twitter, CD Projekt says, “In light of the Russian military invasion in our neighbouring country of Ukraine, until further notice the CD Projekt group has made the decision to halt all sales of our games to Russia and Belarus.”Today we began working with our partners to suspend digital sales and cease physical stock deliveries of CD Projekt Group products, as well as all games distributed on the GOG platform, to the territories of Russia and Belarus.”The post goes on to say that the CD Projekt Group “stands firm” with the Ukrainian people, and notes that while the company is “not a political entity capable of directly influencing state matters” it believes that “commercial entities, when united, have the power to inspire global change in the hearts and minds of ordinary people.”CD Projekt further states that it’s aware players in Russia and Belarus are individuals who “have nothing to do with the invasion of Ukraine” and that they’ll be impacted by the decision, but says, “with this action we wish to further galvanize the global community to speak about what is going on the heart of Europe.””To our brothers and sisters fighting for their home country — stay strong,” the statement concludes. Numerous developers and games companies have shown their support for Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion, and have donated large sums of money to charitable organisations in the country. However, yesterday, Ukraine’s deputy prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, called on the games industry to do more in helping out Ukraine, specifically calling out the likes of Xbox and PlayStation. It appears that CD Projekt is answering this call.
