Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he expects Baker Mayfield to be the team’s starting quarterback in 2022.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to bounce back from a down 2021 campaign. The year prior, the Browns made it to the playoffs and won their first postseason game in over 20 years. It certainly did not help that they did not get the best of pay from an injured quarterback in Baker Mayfield.

At the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday, general manager Andrew Berry reiterated that he still fully expects Mayfield to be the starting quarterback entering the 2022 season and feels confident that he can bounce back.

Andrew Berry still expects Baker Mayfield to be Browns starting QB in 2022

Berry expressed confidence in Mayfield’s ability back in January when the regular season ended. Nearly two months later, Berry has done the exact same thing.

Mayfield’s 2021 campaign got off to a bad start. In Week 2, the quarterback injured his non-throwing shoulder when attempting a tackle after throwing an interception. It was later revealed that he fully tore his labrum, but he played through it.

In 14 games, Mayfield threw for 3,010 yards, 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 60.5-percent.

It is important to note that this is Mayfield is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He is set to count for $18.8 million against the cap. Of course, all eyes will be on whether the Browns sign him to a new contract at some point in the next year.

Berry feels confident in Mayfield’s ability, which is why he said he expects No. 6 to start under center in 2022.
