Cantha calling – the story behind Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons

A new Guild Wars 2 expansion is a rare, beautiful thing. The latest, End of Dragons, is just the third expansion for the hit MMORPG in its decade-long history, but it may also be one of its best. As we noted in our End of Dragons review, Cantha is a vibrant and colourful region that’s home to bustling and diverse cities, ancient temples, and er… giant weaponised tortoise mounts.

In addition to all the lush new environments you can explore, End of Dragons revamps Guild Wars 2’s class system with a fresh batch of elite specialisations, which really let you push the boundaries of traditional MMO archetypes. Forget the holy trinity of tank, DPS, and support – in Cantha you can be a glass-cannon ranger who can leap into battle with a supersized Mjölnir.

In case you haven’t been playing Guild Wars 2 since its 2012 release date, we’ve delved deep into the archives and assembled a crash course to bring you up to date with all the dragon-related goings on in Tyria.

So if you’re sitting there scratching your head about which dragons are still threatening the world and which ones have been laid to rest, or perhaps you’ve never heard of Cantha and want to know what to expect, this video should cover all the bases.
