Kingsley Coman’s impressive displays for France during Euro 2020 only has Liverpool more interested in bringing him to Anfield this summer.

Bayern Munich want to tie Kingsley Coman down with a new contract but the German giants aren’t having much success turning that dream into a reality. That’s given Liverpool officials hope that they can make a sensational swoop for the French wide man this summer.

According to Sportwitness, Liverpool officials have already made some measure of contact with Coman and/or his representatives. Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the pacy wide man shouldn’t surprise anyone. Coman has a terrific combination of speed and skill that make him a perfect fit for Liverpool’s free-flowing attack.

No one seems to know what sort of bid it will require to tempt Bayern into selling this summer. What’s clear is that Bayern are holding a hard line when it comes to any potential Coman transfer. Some sources claim it will require a bid in the region of £100 million to bring the Bundesliga club to the negotiating table.

Should Liverpool pay a massive fee for Coman?

The short answer to the question is yes. He’s an ideal fit for Klopp’s system and the success he’s already enjoyed at Bayern proves he can make an immediate impact in the Premier League. £100 million is too much to pay for someone who isn’t a transcendent superstar, but settling in at a price between £70 and £80 million would represent good business for all involved.

The one big Liverpool caveat is that they should not see Coman as an alternative to signing Kylian Mbappe. There’s no question who the better French prospect and player is. Coman is really good, but Mbappe is great with the potential to blossom into a generational superstar. Liverpool should do everything in their power to land Mbappe before resorting to Coman as a potential Plan B.

That doesn’t mean signing Coman would represent failure. He’s a terrific player in his own right that can breathe much-needed youth and energy into the Liverpool attack. Prying him away from Bayern this summer won’t be easy, but it’s a process worth undertaking for the transfer committee at Anfield.
