Elden Ring drops overview trailer

There are just days to go before we’re hunting for those Elden Ring achievements, and while we wait for February 25th, we can prepare ourselves for battle by checking out the overview trailer, which shows off a little of the Lands Between and its fearsome enemies:In Elden Ring, we play as a descendent of the Tarnished, which was a “group of heroes banished from the Lands Between.” When the Elden Ring was shattered, we’re told “the very source of the Erdtree’s blessing was disrupted, and eventually the exiled Tarnished found themselves being led once more by long-lost grace.” We’ll be embarking on a quest to use the power of the Elden Ring to become an Elden Lord of the Lands Between. The Lands Between is described as “a place of boundless scale and untold mystery,” ruled by heroes — “those who have inherited the blood of queen Marika the Eternal.” We know that George R.R. Martin helped create the world of Elden Ring, and Hidetaka Miyazaki thinks Martin might be “a bit shocked” by Elden Ring’s “inhuman monsters.” Miyazaki explains that Elden Ring’s demigods were closer to human forms before the Shattering of the Elden Ring. It sounds as though Martin’s characters and origin story for Elden Ring were set in that period — Miyazaki then explains that those characters were taken and distorted and misshapen into something more grotesque, something that might “shock” Martin when he sees it. We’ll be facing those former heroes in our travels. The Lands Between are “rich with mystery and fraught with danger,” and “comprise massive, dense play spaces teeming with threats and brimming with the unknown.” The overview trailer shows us that we’ll be rewarded for exploring dungeons and mines and the like, but that if we travel far enough, we’ll eventually come across a Legacy Dungeon: “a complex and intricately built dungeon map that connects seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.” Given that the Lands Between seem pretty massive, it’s lucky that we’ll have the help of our “trusty spectral speed”, Torrent, who, as the trailer shows, can apparently jump straight up the sheer face of a cliff. The rest of the trailer explains a little on how you can customise your character, and also shows how you can summon spirits to help you in combat. Elden Ring launches later this week on February 25th. What do you think of everything we’ve seen so far? Will you be playing Elden Ring on day one? Let us know in the comments!
