Thousands of achievements to be discontinued when Windows Phone loses Xbox support in May

Microsoft has announced that it’s ending support for Xbox features on Windows Phone devices in May, which means you soon won’t be able to unlock achievements on the platform. As per a message sent out to Xbox users from Microsoft and a support post, from May 16th, “Xbox features will no longer be supported on Windows Phone devices. As part of this change, earning achievements will be retired on Windows Phone devices.”Microsoft also notes that “Xbox-related features will have limited to no functionality” and that some games may still be playable locally on the platform, but “progress will not be recorded to your Xbox profile.” Once Xbox support officially ends, thousands of achievements across nearly 300 games will effectively be discontinued. While it is disappointing, it’s not too much of a surprise to see Microsoft end Xbox support on Windows Phone — achievement syncing on the platform has been all over the place in recent years, with the feature often breaking and being out of action for long periods of time before springing back into life. The real kicker here is Microsoft only giving users three months notice before it kills off achievements on the platform. Many are already calling on Microsoft to at least delay the shutdown by another three months to give them more time to unlock achievements. We want to know your thoughts on Microsoft’s decision and if you think it should delay or even cancel retiring Xbox support on the platform. Give us your opinions and suggestions in the comments below.Xbox support on Windows Phone devices will end on May 16th.Thanks to everyone who sent this in as a news suggestion. Unsurprisingly, it was a lot of you!
