Minecraft’s Bedrock Beta program is getting expanded and renamed simply Minecraft Preview, with all Xbox Insiders able to participate in testing starting today. As announced over on Xbox Wire, Minecraft Preview is available to Xbox Insiders via the Insider Hub app. The first few phases of planned testing involve the importing of maps from the retail edition into this preview build, although the Wire post notes that you don’t even need to own the retail edition in order to download and play Minecraft Preview — this effectively makes this new build a fully-featured (effectively) free-to-play version of the wildly popular crafting game, albeit at the expense of cross-platform play and compatibility with retail versions (beyond importing worlds into Preview).Phase one of testing begins today and it’s very simple to get the related Quest done as all you need to do is import a world, have a quick play around in it, and make sure nothing is disastrously broken by the addition of more vertical play space. Phase two will roll out later and apparently involve creating new worlds, with invites going out in waves before eventually being opened up to all participants. It’s likely that this new-look beta version of the game will later be used to test other new features before they come to the full game, so fans will definitely want to get involved. Don’t worry about messing up your existing worlds with this, as Minecraft Preview copies your worlds into this new client rather than making any changes to your existing retail worlds, so all your hard creative work shouldn’t be in any danger! Will you be checking out Minecraft Preview?
