Phil Spencer to receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, will be presented with the AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award at the 25th annual DICE Awards later this month, the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) has announced. The award will be presented by Bethesda Game Studios’ game director and executive producer, Todd Howard, during the 25th annual DICE Awards ceremony on February 24th (thanks, gamesindustry.biz). Since joining Microsoft as an intern in 1988, Spencer has served in many roles within the company over the last 30 years, such as the general manager of Microsoft Studios, head of Xbox, and now CEO of Microsoft Gaming. Spencer has been a key part of a huge number of Xbox initiatives since becoming the head of Xbox in 2014, overseeing the implementation of backwards compatibility, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One family of consoles, and many others. He has also been responsible for much of the growth Xbox Game Studios has seen over the years, by handling acquisitions such as Mojang, ZeniMax and Bethesda Game Studios, and most recently the potential acquisition of Activision Blizzard.”Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership throughout his entire career at Microsoft,” AIAS president Meggan Scavio said. “He’s responsible for countless impactful and pivotal initiatives that have reverberated throughout the entire gaming industry.”The 25th annual DICE awards will see Spencer join the group of AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award winners, which includes PlayStation creator Ken Kutaragi, former EA CCO Bing Gordon, ESA founder Doug Lowenstein, former Nintendo of America bosses Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa, former Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, and Nintendo corporate advisor Genyo Takeda.
