Activision has now revealed that Infinity Ward is leading development on this year’s Call of Duty title and Call of Duty: Warzone experiences. “Development on this year’s premium and Warzone experiences is being led by Activision’s renowned Infinity Ward studio,” Activision Blizzard noted in its Q4 2021 financial report. “The team is working on the most ambitious plan in franchise history, with industry-leading innovation and a broadly appealing franchise setting.”If you follow Call of Duty, then this won’t exactly be a huge revelation. To keep up with annual Call of Duty releases, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, and Treyarch take it in turns to lead development on the next premium CoD title. Treyarch previously released Black Ops Cold: War in 2020, and Sledgehammer followed up with Vanguard in 2021, so it makes sense to see Infinity Ward take the helm this time around. This confirmation also fuels speculation that this year’s Call of Duty could be a sequel to the successful Modern Warfare reboot, previously developed by Infinity Ward. With Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard, there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Call of Duty franchise recently. According to a report, Activision Blizzard execs are considering moving away from annual releases for Call of Duty. It’s also been reported that the next three CoD games, including Warzone 2, will all launch on PlayStation. What are you hoping for from Infinity Ward with CoD 2022? Let us know down in the comments!
