EA may not have exclusivity over the Star Wars license anymore, but that isn’t stopping them creating several games set in that universe. The publisher has announced there are a total of three Star Wars games in development, although DICE is not one of those studios and Star Wars Battlefront III is not one of those games. In fact, Respawn is the studio leading development and production of all three projects. The next wave of Star Wars gamesEA has confirmed Respawn is currently working on the next game in the action adventure Star Wars Jedi franchise. Game Director Stig Asmussen is in charge of the upcoming title. Other details weren’t revealed today and we don’t even know if it will be called Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 as many fans are expecting. Rumors suggest a full reveal for the game could happen on May 4 ahead of its potential release in Q4 2022.The second game is also in development at Respawn. This time, Peter Hirschmann is the Game Director on an “all-new Star Wars first-person shooter game“. Hirschmann has quite a pedigree in Star Wars games as he was executive producer on the original Star Wars Battlefront titles. Work has only just begun on this title. Finally, the third title is a strategy in development at a new studio called Bit Reactor. The studio was founded by Greg Foerstch, who was previously Art Director at Firaxis and has worked on games like XCOM 2, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the Civilization franchise. So Star Wars Battlefront III isn’t in any of EA’s plans for now. Earlier reports suggest a pitch for the game was turned down due to licensing costs, and DICE is now busy trying to turn around the fortunes of beleagured shooter Battlefield 2042.In other news, Final Fantasy XIV has returned to the PlayStation Store after a short break while Square Enix dealt with extreme server congestion. Elsewhere, Rebellion has announced a multiplayer invasion mode for Sniper Elite 5 similar to that seen in Deathloop.
