Age of Empires 4 console version seemingly found in Xbox Insider Hub

It appears Microsoft is currently testing an Xbox console version of the popular PC real-time strategy game, Age of Empires IV.Twitter user ALumia_Italia, who is known for digging around in the Xbox Store and leaking information, claims to have found a file that references Age of Empires IV uploaded for testing to the Xbox Insider Hub (thanks, VGC). According to ALumia_Italia, “CAR” is short for ‘CARDINAL,’ which is apparently Microsoft’s internal codename for Age of Empires IV. To this day, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed if the RTS title will get a console release. The last we heard about AoE 4 coming to consoles was back in November when World’s Edge creative director Adam Isgreen said the team would “start thinking about how to make the game run on consoles” once they are finished with the game’s PC release. “We don’t have any final plans yet, but now we’re really going to start thinking about it,” Isgreen said at the time. A console version of Age of Empires IV would make sense, considering the recent success Microsoft has seen with its console release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, a series that was only available on PC up until last year. As always, it’s worth taking this rumour with a pinch of salt until Microsoft makes an official announcement. Would you like to see Age of Empires IV make its way to Xbox consoles? Let us know down in the comments!
