Employees of Ghost Story Games recently spoke with Bloomberg about BioShock creator Ken Levine’s management style, while also noting that the developer’s highly-anticipated game “could still be two years away.” A recent article from Bloomberg dove into the workings of Ken Levine’s Ghost Story Games studio, speaking with current and former employees about the unnamed project that has been in development for nearly eight years — now beating the likes of Halo Infinite and Red Dead Redemption 2. According to various anonymous employees of the studio, “Levine is a flawed manager who often struggles to communicate his vision, and alienates or browbeats subordinates who challenge him or fail to meet his expectations.” According to the article, the unnamed video game has gone through many different iterations over the years, with work apparently being thrown out or creative plans being changed completely. “Two early employees of the studio recalled a version from around 2016 with elaborate levels and rich, three-dimensional graphics,” writes Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. “They wondered how they’d finish it with fewer than 30 people on the team.”One earlier employee, Giovanni Pasteris, said that “the ideas and ambitions were great, but the scope just grew and grew without concern for the team’s ability to get it done by our fall 2017 deadline. Ken wanted to make a triple-A game with a ‘budget’ team size. It was never going to happen.” There isn’t any news as to where in the development process the game is, but an anonymous current employee of Ghost Story has said that “the team is optimistic that things are finally on track, but estimated a release could still be two years away.” We’ll let you know when more news surfaces about the mysterious project.
