Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro, who was once attached to Konami’s Silent Hills project with Hideo Kojima, has said he doesn’t think he will ever try to develop a game again. As reported by GameSpot, del Toro appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and confirmed that he was not working on any Silent Hill-related projects. This question arrived after del Toro made an appearance at The Game Awards 2021 and playfully said that he loved the art direction in Silent Hill and hoped that we all get a new one soon. The way he delivered the message made many believe he knew more than he was letting on, but it appears this is not the case and that del Toro may be done exploring the world of video games… at least for now. Have you played Death Stranding?YESNODespite saying that he loves the idea of gaming “as a storytelling exercise,” he doesn’t think he “would develop a game again because [he’s] the albatross of video gaming.” del Toro said these same words in 2015, and it appears he is still sticking to his promise. While that may not be the news fans of del Toro’s work may have wanted to hear, he at least shared a few more thoughts about the canceled Silent Hills project he was once working on with Kojima.”It’s just one of those things in my life that makes no sense,” del Toro said of Silent Hills’ cancellation. “I kind of just wanted to tickle the ribs of Konami, because I don’t understand. That was so perfect, what we were going to do was so enthralling.”Silent Hills was announced following the release of P.T., a terrifying gameplay experience that, once completed, revealed itself as a teaser for the game that would be led by del Toro and Kojima and would star The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus. The game would never see the light of day and Konami would even remove P.T. from the PlayStation Store in 2015.While the trio of del Toro, Kojima, and Reedus never got to make Silent Hills, they all did work together on Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding. Reedus was the star of the game, while del Toro lent his likeness to the character known as Deadman. Prior to the Konami drama, del Toro was once working on Insane for Saints Row developer Volition, but that survival horror game also failed to make it across the finish line. While there have been plenty of rumors about a new Silent Hill game, nothing concrete has yet been announced. However, Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama did announce a new survival horror game called Slitterhead at The Game Awards 2021 that looks to be just as disturbing as the games that came before from the developer.Have a tip for us?
