Metro is a series baked in atmosphere. Whether it’s the dank tunnels under the city of Moscow or the snowy landscapes of Russia itself, the simple act of exploring is the reward. I adore what 4A Games did to bring Dmitry Glukhovsky’s novels to life, and can’t wait to see what’s next. In the meantime, however, Metro Exodus co-developer Reburn (formerly 4A Games Ukraine) finally has a launch date for its new game, La Quimera. Best of all, you can play it ahead of time.
La Quimera takes place in a pretty grim potential future. Most nations are extinct. Natural disasters have collapsed the world. Only political microstates have survived. In this dystopian sci-fi future, you take on the role of a private military company operative in a Latin American megalopolis.
Either alone or with others, you need to explore the decaying world of this story-driven atmospheric FPS game. You’ll acquire tools, pick weapons, and even customize your futuristic exoskeleton depending on the job at hand. Choice is the name of the game.
If you’re as big a fan of Cyberpunk 2077 as I am, you’re sure to find something to love in La Quimera. Guns look like they’re from the not-too-distant future, robotic opponents scour the surface, and the landscape of grimy automatons is contrasted by a decaying civilization.
While Metro is all about tense gunfights, tight corners, and post-apocalyptic survival, La Quimera looks quite the opposite. Areas are open, technology is on full display, and you can fight back hard. The same weighty and purposeful combat from Metro looks intact, however, which is sure to make every fight tense.
As for the future of the Metro series, 4A Games recently teased what we can expect. The team says we’re in “for quite the ride” in what it calls the most “relevant chapter” of the games yet.
Reburn is setting the La Quimera release date for Friday April 25, with the 24-hour Steam closed beta running on Saturday April 12. You can wishlist the game on PC here.
We’ve also got all the best co-op games and best war games, if La Quimera has you hungry for more.
