Today I’m giving you my preview of the 2025 Masters Tournament at the legendary Augusta National Golf Club. Now, anyone who knows me knows how much I love Augusta. Since 2010, I’ve only missed two Masters Tournaments, and that’s one of the great perks of being a PGA Professional.
Augusta National is, without question, my favorite venue, and the Masters is my favorite event of the year. There’s something about the history, the course, and the traditions that makes it the pinnacle of golf. And in 2025, we’re set for another unforgettable tournament.
The Basics: 2025 Masters Tournament Details
Date: April 10-13, 2025
Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia
Defending Champion: Scottie Scheffler
The best players in the world will compete for the most coveted prize in golf: the Green Jacket. Scottie Scheffler returns as the defending champion after securing his second Masters title in 2024. He’s coming in hot as the world’s number one player, and the oddsmakers have him as the current favorite at +470.
But history won’t be on his side. No one has won back-to-back Masters titles since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. If Scheffler pulls it off, he’ll be in truly elite company.
The Storylines to Watch
Once again, Rory McIlroy will enter Augusta with one goal in mind: completing the career Grand Slam. The Masters is the one major missing from his resume, and he’s looking sharp after a big win at The Players Championship this season.
But Augusta hasn’t always been kind to Rory. He finished runner-up in 2022 but has also missed the cut in two of his last four Masters starts. If he can handle the pressure and get into contention on Sunday, this could finally be his year.
Ludvig Åberg made waves last year with a runner-up finish at Augusta, and he’ll be looking to build on that momentum. The young Swede has quickly become one of the best ball-strikers on tour, and Augusta rewards precision. He’s definitely a name to keep an eye on.
Xander Schauffele has been knocking on the door at majors for years. Could this be the one he finally breaks through?
Jon Rahm, a former Masters champion, knows what it takes to win here.
Collin Morikawa has a game built for Augusta, but can he put four solid rounds together?
The LIV Golfers – Don’t Count Them Out
One of the big questions will be how the LIV players perform. While they don’t get as much exposure competing on the LIV Tour, don’t be surprised if they make a serious run at the title. Sergio Garcia and Joaquin Niemann have been in great form, and Bryson DeChambeau has become a fan favorite with his aggressive style of play. After his T6 finish last year, you know he’ll be looking to improve on that performance.
Course Conditions & Augusta National’s Challenges
Weather is always a factor at the Masters. Wind played a huge role in the last couple of years, and early forecasts suggest we could see similar conditions in 2025. If the wind picks up, it will test even the best players, particularly on Augusta’s toughest holes like the par-3 12th at Amen Corner.
And there are several iconic holes to watch.
Hole 12 (Golden Bell) – Perhaps the most famous par 3 in golf, this hole has humbled many of the world’s best.
Hole 16 (Redbud) – One of my favorite holes to watch, especially when Sunday pin placements lead to dramatic hole-in-one opportunities.
Amen Corner (Holes 11-13) – This stretch of holes is where the Masters can be won or lost. If a player survives here, they’ll have a chance to attack the back nine.
Augusta’s Timeless Traditions
One of the best things about the Masters is its rich history and traditions. If you’re attending this year (the application process is closed and all tickets have been allocated), or watching from home, take a moment to appreciate what makes Augusta so special:
The Champions Dinner – A gathering of past winners hosted by the defending champion. What will Scottie serve this year?
The Par 3 Contest – A fan-favorite event on Wednesday. Winning it might be a bad omen (no Par 3 winner has ever gone on to win the Masters), but it’s still a great watch.
The Green Jacket Ceremony – There’s nothing like seeing the new champion slip on the Green Jacket in Butler Cabin.
If you’re heading to Augusta (and you didn’t qualify for the Masters yourself), I highly recommend checking out Bobby Jones’ Spectator Guide on the Masters website. It’s an incredible resource to help navigate the grounds and make the most of your experience.
Who Will Win the 2025 Masters? So, will Scottie make history? Can Rory finally complete the career Grand Slam? Will we see a surprise winner emerge from the field? Here are this year’s results.
One thing’s for sure: The 2025 Masters promises to be another unforgettable chapter in golf history. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds, and I’ll be watching every shot. Who’s your pick to win? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, and make sure to stay tuned for more updates from Golfspan!
See you at Augusta!
