As we approach its seventh anniversary, Warhammer Vermintide 2 keeps getting bigger. The brutal co-op action game is an ideal follow-up for Left 4 Dead enjoyers, and the rat-like Skaven are the perfect cannon fodder. With an all-new Versus mode in 2024, this year is also looking busy with the second in a trilogy of brand new, free maps set to drop soon. Not only that, but you can grab Vermintide 2 for dirt cheap on Steam right now.
Late last year, Warhammer Vermintide 2 developer Fatshark rolled out a brand new free map. Entitled The Forsaken Temple, it was the first of a trilogy of new maps in the co-op game’s Verminous Dreams campaign. The story forces you and a valiant group of allies to investigate a Skaven-infested ancient temple. Fatshark has now confirmed that the second map, Devious Delvings, is also coming out for free incredibly soon.
Devious Delvings picks up exactly where the first map left off. You’ve infiltrated the Elven temple filled with Skaven, so now it’s time to find out exactly what the rodents are up to.
With the arrival of Warhammer Vermintide 2’s Versus mode last year, the Skaven-smashing adventure has been on quite the tear recently. A brand new playable boss monster, the positively jacked Rat Ogre, has been added to the side of the Pactsworn. This hulking beast is all about hitting the heroes with a frenzied assault, and stopping them from having even a moment’s rest.
The Versus mode also proved a huge success, with Vermintide 2’s Steam players rising to over 20,000 as a result. That number has dropped since then, but the game still manages to pull in over 5,000 concurrent players a day on Valve’s platform, so you’ll have people to play the new maps with.
Fatshark is selling Warhammer Vermintide 2 at an 80% discount on Steam right now, so you can expect to pay just $5.99 / £4.75 until Wednesday January 29. The Devious Delvings map also arrives for free on Thursday January 23. The game is available right here.
