This Dig It Shovel Progression guide goes over the order of shovels that have the best upgrades and value for money.
Which shovel are you using in Dig It currently? For the late-game shovels, you need to wait for certain events to occur. To find out what these events are, read our Dig It Events guide to see which shovels are available!
Dig It Shovel Progression
Here are my recommendations on the order of shovels that you should purchase.
Basic Shovel
I know it’s boring, but it’s the shovel everyone starts with! It has the worst stats in the game by design, especially with the -200% Luck. I recommend swapping it out as soon as you can with another, which is the next shovel in this progression guide.
Stats
- Luck: -200%
- Strength: 10%
- Precision: 0%
- Control: 0%
- Stamina Lost: 0%
- Stability: 0%
- Maximum Weight: 10kg
Rookie Shovel
Next up is the Rookie Shovel! It has no level requirement, so you can purchase it whenever you have 100 in-game coins. This happens fairly fast, especially if you get through the tutorial quests. It’s purchasable at Nookville, and with its cheap price, it’ll keep you going until you reach at least level 3.
Stats
- Luck: 5%
- Strength: 20%
- Precision: 5%
- Control: 5%
- Stamina Lost: 5%
- Stability: 5%
- Maximum Weight: 30kg
Biodegradable Shovel
For a free shovel, this one is pretty good. You just need to like the game via the Roblox page and join the official group. Then, speak with the the Agent Baldo NPC to unlock it. You could even skip the Rookie shovel above and swap it with this one! With this shovel, you also have a higher chance of getting an item with the Biodegradable mutation, which sells for more.
Stats
- Luck: 15%
- Strength: 18%
- Precision: 15%
- Control: 17%
- Stamina Lost: 10%
- Stability: -5%
- Maximum Weight: 2,500kg
Toy Shovel
From the Rookie Shovel, you can either select the Trusty Shovel or the Toy Shovel. I prefer the latter, as the difference between them is only 2 levels. Instead of spending 750 coins on the Trusty, you might as well save your money until you have 1.5K at level 5+. This shovel is also available to buy at Nookville! It has a significant luck boost compared to the Rookie.
Stats
- Luck: 30%
- Strength: 30%
- Precision: 8%
- Control: 30%
- Stamina Lost: 5%
- Stability: -10%
- Maximum Weight: 500kg
Superior Shovel
Once you reach level 7, you should purchase the Superior Shovel for 4K coins at Nookville. It’s great to use between the levels of 7 and 10, which is when you can unlock the next upgrade.
Stats
- Luck: 20%
- Strength: 35%
- Precision: 20%
- Control: 20%
- Stamina Lost: 5%
- Stability: 17%
- Maximum Weight: 1,500kg
Pirate Shovel
The next island from Nookville is Piratesburg, and so is the next shovel! Use the Superior Shovel from level 7 to get to level 10, and then purchase the Pirate Shovel from Piratesburg for 7.5K coins. You should have enough money by this point to buy it outright. I’m not the biggest fan of this shovel, but the next step up has quite the price jump and is unobtainable until you reach level 12.
Stats
- Luck: 25%
- Strength: 40%
- Precision: 25%
- Control: 25%
- Stamina Lost: 5%
- Stability: 20%
- Maximum Weight: 1000kg
Industrial Shovel
Once you hit level 12, and you have 18,750 coins, you can buy the Industrial Shovel. The price increases quite a bit! It’s not the fastest shovel you can use, but thanks to its stats, you have a chance of obtaining Mythical rarity items.
Stats
- Luck: 30%
- Strength: 40%
- Precision: 45%
- Control: 20%
- Stamina Lost: 6%
- Stability: 45%
- Maximum Weight: 10,000kg
Glass Shovel
Skip the Fossil Shovel, and go straight for the Glass Shovel. You do need to reach level 21 to purchase it, and it costs 45K coins altogether. However, the stats certainly make up for it!
Stats
- Luck: 40%
- Strength: 35%
- Precision: 25%
- Control: 30%
- Stamina Lost: 9%
- Stability: 35%
- Maximum Weight: 5000kg
From the Glass Shovel
With the Glass Shovel being one of the best in the game, the next one you opt for depends entirely on what you want out of your shovel. From here, some of them provide you with passive abilities and buffs at Permafrost. The Meteor has great stats, with a passive that grants you a 75% higher chance of getting a Hot item and a 25% chance of getting a Magma item, which both sell for more. However, this shovel is locked until level 55 and costs a whopping 225,000.
