When Sleeping Dogs arrived in 2012, no one expected it to become an instant classic in the world of GTA-like games the way it did. While it never did get a sequel or anything beyond the 2014 Definitive Edition remaster, it remains a treasured title in the eyes of many players.We likely won’t be getting a new Sleeping Dogs game anytime soon, but for years there was real hope we’d be getting a movie based on the game, with Donnie Yen leading the charge.Now, unfortunately, Yen has revealed that the Sleeping Dogs film is no longer in the works, and won’t be happening, at least not this time around.In an interview with Polygon, on a Zoom call Yen said “I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. Years. And I really want to do it. I have all these visions in my head, and unfortunately…I don’t know, you know how Hollywood goes, right?”“I spent many, many years on it. It was an unfortunate thing. Well, on to better things.”We first got wind of Yen working on a Sleeping Dogs film back in 2017, with Yen providing small updates in 2018 and 2020 that the movie was still happening.Since then however, the winds clearly changed.
