Peripheral company Hyperkin has unveiled The Competitor, a PS5-style Xbox controller that’s clearly inspired by Sony’s DualSense. If, for some reason, you’ve ever wanted to play the best Xbox games with a controller that has an inferior analog stick layout, well, soon you’ll be able to.Hyperkin announces The Competitor Xbox controllerThe Competitor is a wired controller compatible with Xbox and PCIt features Hall Effect joysticks with a symmetrical layout and two programmable buttonsA price and release date has not been announcedAnnounced at CES 2025 (thanks, IGN), Hyperkin’s The Competitor is an Xbox controller for those after a more PS5-style experience on their Microsoft machine. As you can see, The Competitor looks very much like the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, with its black and white color scheme and that symmetrical layout for its joysticks. The Competitor is a wired controller compatible with both Xbox consoles and PC. In terms of features, it has some nifty Hall Effect joysticks, which makes them more resistant to stick drift and should give the controller more longevity, Hall Effect triggers, and two remappable buttons on the back of the pad. There’s also a handy button to mute your microphone in the center of the controller. Hyperkin has shown off two colorways for The Competitor: a white version that mimics the PS5’s DualSense and an all-black version. A release date and price for the controller have not been announced. In my opinion, Xbox has perfected the controller layout and ergonomics. Xbox controllers are easily the most comfortable pads out there, so to see Hyperkin announce a new Xbox controller with the symmetrical stick layout is kind of odd. Still, more options are always nice. In recent years, Hyperkin has released several excellent Xbox controllers, including the Hyperkin Xenon, a replica of the iconic Xbox 360 controller for modern consoles. What do you make of The Competitor? Will you be picking this one up? Let us know down in the comments.
