Think you’ve seen everything Everspace 2 has to offer? Think again. Developer Rockfish Games has revealed this breathtaking space game is getting a massive new expansion next year. The expansion will offer a host of new star systems, including one that players briefly glimpsed during the main game.
Exiting Steam Early Access in 2023, Everspace 2 was one of that year’s best games and remains one of the best space games of all time. But despite its success, Rockfish Games hasn’t been sitting on its laurels and, instead, is working on what promises to be an absolutely huge expansion for this space-based looter-shooter and exploration game.
Rockfish has dropped a teaser trailer for the expansion, as well as a few tidbits of information revealing which new regions of space Everspace 2’s pilots will be blasting off too.
One of those systems will be Aethon, which players visited as part of the game’s final mission. However, unlike the main game, they didn’t get to free roam, instead they were whisked away back to regular space.
“How do you get to Aethon?” is a question that often pops up in the official Everspace 2 Steam and Reddit forums but, until now, the answer has been, simply, you don’t. Now, Rockfish is set to give players the opportunity they’ve been champing at the bit for.
The trailer, which you can watch above, is suitably dramatic and a little eerie, offering glimpses of the upcoming expansion. Aside from namechecking Aethon, it shows off various installations, including one which appears to be in serious trouble.
You can expect this to be paid DLC, though Rockfish is no doubt hoping it’ll be better received than its Titans DLC, which received a rather mixed reception. Rockfish promises that there’s more news on the way, with a full announcement dropping in the new year, including the title of this upcoming expansion. The teaser trailer confirms it’ll be dropping in 2025 so hopefully Rockfish will also give us a more specific window.
