Gamezebo’s Top PlayStation Games of 2024 – Gamezebo

My picks for the Top PlayStation games of 2024 are subjective and are based largely on the new games I’ve played this year on the console. The games I’ve chosen may not be your favourites of the year, but they sure are mine!

Astro Bot

Astro from Astro Bot with a scared expression on his face, standing in front of a dark castle in the backround as the moon hides behind it and smirks.

Astro finally has a full video game now, and I couldn’t be happier. I adore the original free game that comes with the PlayStation 5, and this full release exceeded my expectations.

It perfects the art of platforming whilst keeping things interesting, with a range of mechanics to utilise. Plus, Astro is cute as heck, and collecting a bunch of other bots that dress like your favourite video game characters is a bonus on top.

It’s colourful, fun, and challenging, with different planets to visit and short mini-trials that pump up the difficulty to the max. I just think it’s a brilliant platformer title, which uses the DualSense Controller capabilities and adds so much fun to the console as a whole.

Stellar Blade

Eve from Stellar Blade walks by a glowing red screen whilst touching it with her hand and looking into it.

As someone who loves Nier Automata, I couldn’t wait to play Stellar Blade. If I get to play as a cute robot girl, defeating sci-fi creatures, and exploring a post-apocalyptic world, I’m set to have a good time.

It’s far from perfect, but the music is lovely, and I’m an avid collector of outfits. The story isn’t mind-blowing, but that’s okay because the sheer exploration and combat make up for it. With tons of side quests to complete, a variety of customisation items to unlock, and upgrades to purchase, there’s always something to do.

Stellar Blade isn’t easy either. The boss fights are pretty tough, adding a nice layer of challenge to the game. But, you can lower the difficulty on the go if you prefer (which I admit, I did quite often).

Persona 3 Reload

3 characters from Persona 3 Reload at a festival, with the girls wearing kimonos.

Persona is no stranger to re-releasing games, and Persona 3 Reload is a masterpiece. Comparing it to its original version, which seems slightly unfair, the remake knocks it out of the park.

The graphics look better, the art is refreshed, and the gameplay gets a new lick of paint whilst still retaining the turn-based charm of Persona. There was already a dedicated fanbase for the original title, but the release of Persona 3 Reload introduced the game to a ton of new fans.

The great thing about the Persona series is that you don’t need to play any of the others, as all of the stories and characters are completely different. Whether you’ve played Persona 5, or you’ve never played a Persona game before, Reload is a great place to start.
