The Northern Expedition update comes with new bestiaries and rods, but what else can you find while exploring?
How to Get to the Northern Expedition Island
To get there, you need to sail in the direction of the Northern Expedition marker on your screen once you enter the ocean. When you reach the marker, you see an island with a large portal at the front. Enter this portal to teleport to the Northern Expedition!
Sail forward until you find the island itself, and dock somewhere safe (some of the ice is too high to jump on!). From here, you can access the various locations within the island, such as the Northern Summit and Glacial Grotto.

Avalanches and Blizzards
The events that can occur on the Northern Expedition island are Avalanches and Blizzards. While these have a chance of occurring by themselves, you can also activate them yourself by using Avalanche Totems and Blizzard Totems.
Avalanche
Avoid the falling snow! Find somewhere to hide for the duration of the event. The Avalanche Totem costs 150K coins at the Northern Summit!
Blizzard
Your temperature drops faster during the Blizzard event. You have a higher chance of obtaining Blighted fish when a Blizzard is active. The Blizzard Totem costs 275K coins at the Northern Summit.
Temperature and Oxygen
As well as all the new fish, you also need to take note of your temperature and oxygen levels. When you’re exploring the Northern Expedition island, you can see 2 bars next to your avatar. Depending on where you are, or if an event is active, your oxygen and temperature may decrease much faster.
Oxygen Tanks
To counter this, make sure to equip an Oxygen Tank. There are Refilling Stations sprinkled across the island for when your tank runs out. There are now 4 options to choose from:
- Basic
- Beginner
- Intermediate
- Advanced
Winter Cloak
To increase your temperature, you must equip the Winter Coat accessory. You can purchase this for 7.5K coins when visiting the Glacial Grotto. Look for the Hiker 10 NPC to spot the Winter Cloak! Additionally, the campfires scattered across the island increase your temperature too.
