Tetris Forever developer Digital Eclipse has released a new update for the celebration of Tetris’ history that is Tetris Forever. The latest update (which is now live to download on PS5 and PS4 consoles) adds a new Tetris game, Welltris, the follow-up to Tetris developed by original Tetris creator Alexey Pajintov, where Tetriminos fall down four sides of a well instead of straight in front of you. Also included in the update are other improvements like being able to remap controls for the Tetris games from the Elecktronika 60, MS-DOS and Apple II.Tetris Time Warp can also have its controls remapped to players preferences, which is happy news for players after this quickly became a much-requested feature with the popularity of Tetris Time Warp. With the addition of Welltris to the list of games included in Tetris Forever, it’ll be interesting to see how long Digital Eclipse continues to update it with more Tetris games.According to a press release, “It is Digital Eclipse’s goal to continue to improve and expand on Tetris Forever with more games and features. The teams at Tetris and Digital Eclipse continue to explore adding new games tot he collection, as well as addressing further feature requests and reported issues.”“The team’s next priority is to address an issue in some classic games that prevent users from saving or registering high scores, for which they expect to issue a fix in early January.”The release also includes that there’s more work being done on Tetris Time Warp specifically, to further expand that with new features set to come early 2025.So it doesn’t sound like we can expect new Tetris games with each new update, but it’ll be interesting to see how the game continues to grow, because even though a lot of the game focuses on Tetris’ past, it’s not called “Tetris: A History,” it’s Tetris for now, for then, and for forever. For more on Tetris Forever, check out our review and interview with Digital Eclipse’s editorial director Chris Kohler.Source – [Digital Eclipse Press Release]
