CD Projekt Red dropped a new update for Cyberpunk 2077 that added customization options for your cars and character, photo mode features, and a few “surprises” the team is hoping fans will find themselves. One thing the team didn’t mention in its live stream or patch notes was that update 2.2 would also bring a quest based on Balatro, 2024’s card game indie darling that is nominated for Game of the Year at this year’s Game Awards. If you haven’t booted up Cyberpunk since the update but are curious about how to see this unexpected crossover, we’ve got the rundown on where to go in Night City to start the quest.
For most people, the quest should begin fairly easily. If you boot up the game, you should receive a text message from someone named Jim B (a reference to Balatro’s clown mascot Jimbo) who will send V on a treasure hunt around the city, with clues and photos leading you to areas adorned with hidden Jimbo logos. Throughout the quest, you’ll find Balatro-themed cosmetics, including a trophy you can put on display in your apartment.
However, as of this writing, the quest might be bugged, as some players, myself included, are not receiving a text message from Jim B upon start-up. I tried riding around Night City to see if the clown might get in touch with me, but had no luck. I also checked the spot where the first logo is supposed to appear, and it seems like it doesn’t show up in the world if you haven’t started the quest. We’ve reached out to CD Projekt Red about this issue and will update the story when we hear back. All of this launches alongside a line of Cyberpunk X Balatro merchandise including shirts and a hoodie, all of which are available for pre-order on CD Projekt Red’s website. While Cyberpunk 2077 may be getting a little love even four years after its release, most of CD Projekt Red’s team has been moved to other projects, including a sequel codenamed Orion. We don’t know much about the game, but there’s reason to believe it will have some kind of multiplayer mode.
