2024 has been a good year for RTS and strategy fans, and it just got even better. Veteran developers who previously worked on the Total Annihilation and Command and Conquer series have banded together for an industrious mix of factory-building and planetary warfare. Industrial Annihilation just launched in Steam Early Access after a strong crowdfunding campaign.
Industrial Annihilation channels the strategy games that made the careers of its creators. You’ve got the base-building of C&C, and the space age unending war for territory from Total Annihilation, with the added twist of Factorio-esque production management.
Your means of operation need to be on point if you want to keep your armies moving in the RTS game, and what kind of units you decide to build will contribute massively to the outcome. Smaller drones are weak, yes, but you can make a lot of them quickly, so the numbers are on your side. Another mission might benefit from some tanks, prompting you to balance their longer construction with defending all the conveyor belts.
You need to pick what plates are worth spinning and then keep them on balance. Given the talent behind this one, it’s no surprise Industrial Annihilation, part of the ongoing Total Annihilation franchise, from the newly minted Galactic Annihilation Inc, smashed its Kickstarter goal and gathered $316,933 from an initial goal of $200,000.
You might think such dedication to the term ‘annihilation’ indicates a fixation on as much destruction as possible, and you’d be right. The alien environments and your own buildings alike can be blown apart and torn asunder, adding to the overall chaos.
Industrial Annihilation is out now on Steam. A single-player campaign is available at launch, as well as two factions for PvP. If you’re curious about what else might be worth your time, our new PC games list has you covered.
