Dishonored and Shadow Tactics collide in new stealth game Eriksholm

It’s always more than welcome to see a new studio debut with projects that draw on their team’s own cultural background for inspiration. This is certainly the case with Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, the first game from the Battlefield, Mirror’s Edge, Little Nightmares, and Unravel veterans at Swedish studio River End Games. A combination of Dishonored and Shadows Tactics-style stealth and storytelling set in a faux-Nordic city, Eriksholm first caught our attention when it was unveiled earlier this year, but it’s become even more compelling now that we’ve been given a closer look at how it plays thanks to a new gameplay trailer.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream looks, at first glance, quite a bit like isometric stealth games like Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, Desperados, or Commandos. It seems to have just as much in common with the narrative focus of games like A Plague Tale, though, and includes a splash of Dishonored as evident in its pseudo-industrial era aesthetic.

Taking place in the fictional city that gives the game its title, Eriksholm stars a teenager named Hanna out to find her brother, who’s mysteriously disappeared somewhere in the bustling urban setting. It looks to offer a host of stealth design staples to experiment with. Hanna can work alone or alongside two other playable characters to outwit more powerful police forces by climbing around the environment, distracting or knocking out their enemies, and solving puzzles based on the trio’s unique skill set. Though the look and premise of the game were already enticing, this snapshot of how it plays has us anticipating Eriksholm even more.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too much longer to give it a try. Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is slated to launch sometime next year. Find more details or add it to your wishlist on Steam right here.
