Genuinely great Black Friday graphics card deals are hard to come by, as profit margins on GPUs are super tight. However, this Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super card from Asus offers a nice little saving on the best mid-range card around at the moment.
When it arrived back at the start of this year, the Nvidia RTX 4070 Super really shook up the middle of the GPU market, as it came in at the same price as the original RTX 4070 while offering noticeably better performance. As a result, it became clearly the best graphics card in its price range, and with today’s discount that price range has dipped just a little bit lower than usual.
The particular variant of the RTX 4070 Super that’s discounted today is the Asus Prime GeForce RTX 4070 Super OC Edition 12GB GDDR6X – yes, that really is its full title. It sports a three-fan cooler for cool and quiet operation, with Asus boasting of the dual-ball fan bearing lasting twice as long as conventional designs and the fan’s smaller hubs allowing for longer blades and more air-pushing power.
The card’s design is also relatively compact, rising to just 120mm tall and 50mm wide, with the latter measurement making this a “2.5 slot” card, referring to how many PCIe expansion slots the card occupies. That’s why Asus’s listing on Amazon labels this as an “SFF-Ready” card, referring to its compact build being suitable for small form factor PC cases.
The card also comes with a slight overclock right out the box, giving you a small boost in frame rate over a standard clock speed card without the worry of breaking a warranty by trying to overclock the card yourself. The standard RTX 4070 Super’s clock speed is rated to top out at 2,475MHz while this card can operate in either standard mode where it reaches 2,520MHz or overclock mode where it hits 2,550MHz.
As for the GPU itself, it houses 7,168 of Nvidia’s latest CUDA GPU cores, which is a big increase from the 5,888 cores of the RTX 4070. This GPU’s power allowed it to deliver 85fps average in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1440p resolution with Epic detail settings during testing for our Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super review. It also hit 77fps in F1 23 at 1440p with ray tracing enabled. Suffice to say, it’s a powerful card that’s a great choice whether you’re looking to hit 300fps+ in competitive shooters or enjoy smooth 60fps+ gaming in AAA ray traced titles.
What’s more, Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series architecture gets you access to its fantastic DLSS 3 frame generation technology that can provide huge boosts in frame rates for minimal image quality impact.
It’s clear this is a great card, then, but what’s the saving, we hear you ask. Well, it’s only 8%, which knocks the price of this card down from $639.99 to $589.99. However, that makes this the cheapest RTX 4070 Super available in the shops we’ve scanned this Black Friday weekend and it’s the lowest price this card has ever been – it has never dropped below $600 before.
Also, if you’re worrying about the fact that Nvidia is expected to announce brand new graphics cards in a few weeks time at the CES 2025 trade show, don’t. Nvidia will at most announce only new top-end cards rather than replacements for the RTX 4070 Super and it’ll be months before they’re available anyway. This is still a great time to buy a RTX 4070 Super.
If you’re in the US, you can grab the saving by going to Amazon via this link or for UK buyers you can also get this card at its lowest price ever via this link.
