Dieselpunk WW2 roguelike Grit and Valor 1949 opens beta sign-ups

World War 2 games have long been a staple, but increasingly we’re seeing more of them branch out into alternate-history takes on the conflict. So it is in dieselpunk strategy game Grit and Valor 1949, which injects a little Armored Core into the battle between Axis and Allies. Blending classic Call of Duty with Into The Breach, the tactical roguelike is set to arrive in 2025, but a closed beta is coming in less than a month, and you can sign up now if you’re interested in taking part.

Grit and Valor 1949 puts a dramatic spin on WW2 games by transforming the war into a tactical roguelike in an alternate-history reality, one where mechs take the lead on the frontlines. Rather than the traditional infantry and tanks, you’ll instead gather and customize a squad of walking metal powerhouses and their respective pilots. You’ll need to adapt your strategy to fit the troops at your disposal and the missions they face across distinct regions.

A new trailer from developer Milky Tea Studios showcases a particularly fearsome boss encounter, the colossal, quadrapedal mech of General Harmsworth. Large enough to fill entire streets, this titanic terror will push your strategy to the limits as you figure out how to use the environment to your advantage and pick it apart piece-by-piece.

Harmsworth is just one of the many deadly Axis Generals you’ll encounter at the end of each of Grit and Valor’s regions. If your command vehicle falls, regroup back at base, rebuild your squad, and redeploy on another mission. With distinct challenges presented in each zone, and random battlefields, enemies, rewards, and upgrades appearing along your journey, no two runs should feel quite the same.

If you’re curious to give this new roguelike RTS game a try, there’s good news. The Grit and Valor 1949 closed beta is set to begin on Monday December 2. It’ll be playable on Steam, and if you’re eager to take part you can register your interest by clicking the ‘sign up now’ button on publisher Megabit’s website.
