Diablo 4 won’t nerf Spiritborn just yet, but big changes are on the horizon

When you have a live service game on your hands, it must be a nightmare any time you want to change anything, especially when you’re adding something to the game. Titles like Destiny 2, Path of Exile, Warframe, or Once Human are always on a knife edge when it comes to alterations. Diablo 4 is no different, and the recent addition of the new Spiritborn class has seen some completely unintended effects cause this character’s power to skyrocket. With a midseason patch on the way, Spiritborn fans can rest assured that Blizzard won’t be hitting it with nerfs. Yet.

On paper the Spiritborn class doesn’t appear to be too powerful in Diablo 4, but Blizzard appears to have been unprepared for how its skills work alongside each other. Unlike other classes, Spiritborn skills tend to have effects that work across the board, which is fairly unique in the action RPG. Other classes have skill trees that work independently, while a Spiritborn player has access to skills and passives that boost everything way more than may have been originally intended.

Diablo 4 fans have been waiting for the announcement that a big barrel of nerfs would be rolling towards the Spiritborn soon, and with a midseason patch on the horizon it seemed that would be the perfect time. Not so, says Blizzard in a campfire chat. While nerfs will be arriving for the Spiritborn in Season 7, there won’t be anything major hitting the class just yet. Instead, Blizzard will be taking a different approach.

What’s going to happen in the midseason patch is that all classes will receive buffs to try and bring them nearer to the Spiritborn. From Barbarians to Druids, flat damage increases to skills, improved uniques and legendaries, and a few other tweaks will see everyone in much better health, when compared to the mighty Spiritborn anyway. So it looks like the next few weeks will be a cavalcade of carnage, with every class able to lay down massive amounts of damage.

When season 7 launches, however, the Spiritborn’s unintended synergies will be removed and it, and all classes, will be rebalanced to bring them back down to more normal levels of power.

There’s no date for the Diablo 4 season 6 midseason patch yet, but you’ll be able to get the full lowdown on what to expect when the patch notes are released on Friday November 15.
