Fisch Whiptail Catfish Guide
The Whiptail Catfish appears as a slender orange fish that’s relatively small in size, capping at roughly 2 kg. (According to my own Bestiary entry for it). As mentioned, it’s the first Legendary fish added to Moosewood Village and was done so silently, meaning the Whiptail wasn’t available when the game first launched.
To catch the Whiptail Catfish you’ll need to head to the Moosewood Pond. This area sits inland beside the Angler Quest NPC and Merchant NPC. When a Whiptail Catfish snags your line, it isn’t too hard to catch despite its ‘Whiptail’ name, making it a relatively easy Legendary to fish. You’ll know when you’ve ensnared a Whiptail Catfish since the exclamation mark above your head will flash yellow instead of the standard red.
Whiptail Catfish Preferences
Whilst it is best to wait for all the tastes to align to heighten your chance of encounter, the Whiptail Catfish might spawn with only a few of its habitat preferences.
- Bait: Seaweed
- Time: Nighttime
- Found on Sunstone Island nestled into the rocky cave at its summit, the Sundial Totem costs 2,000 C$ and has the power to change the current day cycle.
- Season: Spring and Autumn
- Weather: Any/No preference
Best Rod To Use
Ideally, you’ll want anything better than the early-game rods. The low stats on them make it hard to catch even Common fish thanks to the low control and resilience. Luckily, I have a Fisch Rod Tier List that ranks them all with reasons and obtainment methods to make the hunt easier! I’d recommend anything C-Tier or higher.
