Bungie’s first non-Destiny release for the first time in years is coming (hopefully) sometime soon in the form of Marathon, a game that stretches all the way back to Bungie’s origins that’s being spruced up for today.Today however we got a new update on how things are going in the development of Marathon from game director Joe Ziegler. The game’s store page also went up on the PlayStation Store, you can even wishlist it if you want to.Ziegler just spoke for the whole nine and a half-minute update video, with a few shots of concept art from the game, and a look at a character called Thief.Bungie didn’t show any actual gameplay just yet, as Ziegler said that while the team is still iterating in multiple areas, it still remains “a little early to show you all of it [Marathon] in one piece.”Zielger also talked about how there were a lot of changes made in the last two years alone, and reiterated what we’d heard last month, that we won’t be getting a proper look at the game until sometime in spring 2025.He did however share that the ‘proper look’ we will get will be some kind of coming beta test, but whether it’s a closed beta or not is unclear. You can check out the full update video for yourself, below.Ziegler took over from the game’s previous director, Bungie veteran Chris Barrett, who was fired from the studio following an internal investigation into Barrett’s inappropriate conduct. This summer, a report from Bloomberg identified the state of Marathon’s development as “not great,” which Ziegler did not directly contradict. He might’ve even added more wood to that fire, since he made it clear that there are still plenty of areas where the team is still iterating, and as previously stated he directly called out that there had been a lot of changes in the last two years alone. To be fair he does also specify areas that are finished, and says that with all parts of Marathon, everything is “on track,” but it’s not yet ready to be shown.Source – [Bungie]
