It’s the right time for Dying Light to have a comeback. Halloween, the annual celebration of everything ghoulish and zombified, is almost upon us, and it’s not long ago that we found out about the new Dying Light game, The Beast. Originally released almost ten years ago, Techland’s undead FPS certainly deserves one last turn in the spotlight before it’s fully superseded by its successors, but I didn’t expect it to become this popular again. Thanks to a historic discount, Dying Light currently has more than three times the amount of players on Valve’s platform than Dying Light 2: Stay Human. If you’ve never tried it before, this is definitely the time to take a bite.
State of Decay and Dead Island are strong competitors for the zombie FPS game crown, but Dying Light stands apart. The melee combat is slow, weighty, impactful – you can really feel the ardor, so every time you eliminate an enemy, there’s a terrific sense of both accomplishment and relief. The day-and-night cycle also adds a sense of pressure. While you can coast around during sunlight hours, enjoying the parkour and finishing quests, if you’re not careful, you won’t get home before night falls and you’ll be ripped to shreds. With the Dying Light The Beast release date on the way, if you’ve never played the original before, now is definitely the time.
Until Wednesday November 6, Dying Light is available for its lowest price ever, at just $2.99 / £2.09. That huge discount has seemingly pulled in a lot of new players. A week ago, on October 21, Dying Light’s concurrent user count peaked at just over 4,500.
In the last day, 24,820 people have logged in to play simultaneously. Compare that to Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which during the past 24 hours has attracted a concurrent player high of 7,290. It means the original game has more than three times the amount of players right now than the sequel.
