Neko Atsume 2
A whole decade on from Hit-Point Co’s cartoon kitty collector Neko Atsume, it turns out gamers still can’t get enough of these cute and cuddly creatures. And feline fans are in for a treat today, because Neko Atsume 2 has landed on all fours on iOS and Android.
Iterating on the 2014 original, this new mobile game empowers players to serve their fluffy masters’ every need – dishing out treats, feeding strays, playing with toys and more. That line of toys has expanded too, from the more mainstream scratching posts to some slightly chaotic tissue paper, unleashing a range of reactions from these most unpredictable pets.
Hit-Point Co has launched Neko Atsume 2 with over 40 varieties of cat to meet, including rare kitties who can be lured into the yard with special items. By feeding whoever shows up, players can earn rewards that can be exchanged for more treats and toys, in turn drawing in even more attention from around the neighbourhood.
Players can even hire in-game helpers to assist in all the affection-giving, earning that many more purrs from contented cat customers. But this ‘Cat Club Support’ doesn’t come cheap – it’s a subscription based extra for the most committed cat lovers.
With over 33 million downloads across the series, it’s best not to underestimate the power of these kitties’ cuteness.
Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince
Zelda-like dungeons, plenty of puzzles and all manner of oddities return in Blossom Tales 2: The Minotaur Prince, continuing Castle Pixel’s story-in-a-story narrative hundreds of years later. Despite the time jump, Blossom Tales 2 follows the same heroine as the original and tasks Lily with defeating the Minotaur King.
A tale of her Grandpa’s making, Blossom Tales 2 puts family front and centre as Lily’s mission holds a heartfelt core: she must save the day to rescue her brother. It’s a classic format suited to this retro-style game, but a more modern edge empowers players to influence the story.
Through their adventure they might search for mysterious lands, take it easy in quaint towns, dare to explore a pirate shore or wander somewhere else entirely.
Blossom Tales 2 originally launched on Steam, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One in 2022. Thanks to a deal with Crunchyroll, two years later it’s made its way to mobile, making Lily’s latest adventure that much more accessible.
Political Party Frenzy
With election season dominating much of US discourse, politics is only going to keep heating up in these final weeks before the presidential election on November 5th – and not just in McDonald’s. Aionic Labs is making the most of politics’ rising prominence with a new “patriotic” puzzler called Political Party Frenzy, packed with hundreds of scandals, shady donations and “toxic alerts”.
While a mobile game may not be the best place for real-world politics to play out, that doesn’t mean it can’t offer some fun in a faux election scenario. The game is designed to poke fun at both sides, aiming to appeal to the politically minded regardless of their real-world views.
It’s about competitive spirit, influencing in-game followers and battling with trolls, rising through the leaderboards and reshaping the direction of the country. Players can even compete with their friends in private battles, flipping states red or blue and fighting for the future of their party.
Beast Game
Werewolf-inspired Beast Game takes another new spin on Dimitry Davidoff’s famous social deduction experiment – pitting a well-informed minority against the unwitting majority. This time around, that minority is actually a godlike beast aiming to reclaim its land from human invaders, a nuanced and dramatic turn compared to a feral werewolf.
Set in an unexplored northern expanse, Beast Game sends players out into a range of locations where reality and mythology intertwine, where the titular beast can attack and wipe out players.
In order to survive, those players must identify who among them is the beast incarnate and take them down, casting votes and risking broken alliances. If they correctly identify the beast their safety is assured, but the wrong choice can mean the loss of a valuable ally.
Similar in concept to Among Us, the formula offers limitless replayability with all sorts able to jump in with their deduction hats on. Slightly less accessible, however, Beast Game was initially launched on Apple’s App Store at $29.99 per install. It’s currently listed as a free game, and as developer Giorgi Shervashidze’s first on the platform.
CatTrio
Cats make another comeback with a match-3 twist in Japanese developer Naoya Kubota’s new game CatTrio, out now on iOS and designed particularly for iPad players. The puzzle title sees gamers catch falling cats in a clay pot in a much less ergonomic game of Tetris – except these animals need to match breeds to disappear.
While that premise may sound simple, CatTrio’s strategic element really comes into play in regards to different breeds.
Allowing different types of falling cats to touch each other makes them grow larger – a result of them trying to intimidate one another over territory. That means they take up more space in the pot and can eventually overflow it, ending the game.
Players must therefore keep different breeds apart to the best of their ability, or allow them to grow but match them up before they overflow, all while reaching the highest score possible and competing to be the best cat carer around.
