Sergio Pettis broke the internet when he knocked out Kyoji Horiguchi at Bellator 272.

Sergio Pettis just made the internet take notice of him, after knocking out Kyoji Horiguchi at Bellator 272 in the most epic way possible. Clearly down on the scorecards, having been dominated by Horiguchi all fight, the only way for Pettis to retain his title and walk out still the champion of the division was for a stoppage of some sort.

Where there is a will there is a way, as Pettis got in close with Horiguchi, and exchanged some strikes, before evading a strike and catching the former champion and Rizin alumni with a spinning back fist that knocked Horiguchi out cold.

Horiguchi was no slouch, clearly, the better fighter all bout long and was even called the greatest Japanese MMA fighter of all time by Mauro Ranallo, but all that didn’t matter when Pettis went full Street Fighter on Horiguchi.

Twitter reacts to Sergio Pettis’ knockout of knockouts

Pettis, the younger brother of former UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, may have matched, if not topped his brother’s most famous highlight. Older brother Anthony made a name for himself when he fought and defeated Benson Henderson for the WEC title when the WEC was on Showtime. The fight was made famous by Sergio springing off the cage and catching Henderson with a flying kick straight out of a movie.

Sergio may have topped his brother because unlike Anthony’s famous strike, Sergio’s won the fight. Anthony’s strike merely knocked Henderson down, and while he did win the fight, Anthony’s kick wasn’t the reason why.

So it should be no surprise that when fighters began reacting to the win, Sergio was first out of the gate.

The fighters weren’t the only ones who had something to say as Twitter far and wide lost their minds over such a sensational finish to the fight.

Bellator 272 took place on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, live from the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. Follow along with FanSided MMA for all your news and highlights.
