The XDefiant achievements remain safe from a server closure for the time being. Executive producer Mark Rubin has dismissed the latest batch of XDefiant shutdown rumors but has admitted that player numbers are down in the free Xbox game. There are “no plans” to shut down XDefiantThe rumors began on X when a self-proclaimed leaker made claims that XDefiant could be killed off after Season 4 if it didn’t attract enough players. However, Rubin dismissed those rumors in an post of his own, saying there are “no plans to shut down after Season 4.”Rubin states that he’s been in meetings this week to discuss plans for XDefiant’s Year 2 and that the team is focusing on improving the game’s experience (including its shaky netcode) and adding more new content for Seasons 3 and 4. However, the developer also admits the team hasn’t done much marketing, and as a result, player numbers are down. “We have done very little marketing, so yes, our numbers are down, but that is just to give the team the time to get the game in a better place before we do bigger spends on marketing to bring new players to the game and to bring back players that have left.”Last month, ahead of Season 2, Rubin denied reports that XDefiant was dying, though when we looked at our data, we confirmed that XDefiant had seen a massive drop in Xbox players since its launch. According to our data, the game’s second season, which launched on September 25, did bump up the XDefiant Xbox player count by 32% in its first week, but since then, XDefiant has continuously shed players, and that 32% increase has now been completely wiped out. If you’re an Ultimate subscriber, Ubisoft is giving away some free weapon skins for XDefiant with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perks.
